Camel Valley has become the first English wine producer to be awarded a Royal Warrant of Appointment.
The Warrant, which has been granted by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales for the estate’s English sparkling wines, has been presented in recognition of the consistent supply of Camel Valley at numerous Royal occasions over many years.
The criteria for the award of a Royal Warrant are quite strict, with an emphasis on consistent supply over at least 7 years and a high emphasis on sustainability.
“We are delighted, it’s a great honour and we are very proud to be the first ‘By Royal Appointment’ English sparkling wine,” said owner Bob Lindo, who planted the first 8,000 vines with wife Annie on the family farm in Bodmin in 1989. “It’s a great honour for Camel Valley and it speaks for the whole industry that there is now an English sparkling wine ranked alongside some of the finest suppliers of wines to the Royal household.”
The Cornish producer’s sparkling wines, which will now display the HRH Prince of Wales’ Royal Arms in a similar way to a medal sticker, have appeared at events such as the 2013 Commonwealth Conference chaired by HRH the Prince of Wales in Sri Lanka and its 2013 Pinot Noir Rosé was on the menu at a state banquet held at Buckingham Palace in honour of the King and Queen of Spain on 12 July 2017.
Camel Valley’s 2013 ‘Cornwall’ Brut was also served at a star-studded reception to celebrate the Duchess of Cornwall’s birthday at Clarence House on 13 July 2017, of which Bob Lindo, together with his son and winemaker, Sam Lindo, were invited.
