As autumn turns to winter a list of jobs looms large in the calendar. The vines need pruning and the soil needs care and attention. To make these jobs less demanding and costly, different tools can be used.

The list includes a two leg subsoiler to lift the tractor compaction strips with special J shaped legs disturbing the soil across a wide band where the tractor tyres have passed.

Of course the major winter event is pruning and to make hand work less arduous and quicker the Zanon cordless battery powered secateurs have become increasingly popular and to increase efficiency even further the Provitis tractor mounted pre-pruner cuts out even more time and effort with the added knock on advantage of significantly reducing the amount of time spent pulling out canes as the tendrils have been cut away.

After pruning mechanical sweepers are used to pull the canes away from the feet of the vines into a row at the front of the tractor so that the flail mower at the back can mulch the prunings simultaneously.

Let’s not forget to plan for the devastating effects of late spring frosts with the array of tools which help reduce these losses from candles to wind machines and the increasingly popular Ventigel which combines both heat and wind in one package.
